On November 1st, Weeki Wachee Springs became a Florida state park. Here, Tommy Ervin, inaugural park manager, and two current mermaids take part in a weekend jazz fest held at the park.
I wish Mr. Ervin all the best in his future efforts and look forward to visiting Weeki Wachee for decades to come.

This is so exciting! I love kitsch and wanted to visit the mermaids since I first read about it on Roadside America. i knew they were having financial problems over the years and almost closed a couple of times. Now the Kitsch is here to stay!
well, "Condo Blues", I hope you mean that in some positive way, using such a negative word to describe truly amazing performers.
what a lucky Mr. Ervin - working with mermaids in Florida.
hahahah...what a great expression...he's got that what? me?...and mermaids...? hot damn
Okay, where do I sign up for that job?
Yay for the mermaids! Hot dog!
How do they walk around in those costumes?
Hawg, when on land, mermaids get carried around a lot...or drive around on a golf cart (pictured).
I visited Weeki Wachee with my in-laws 20 years ago. It was a bit run down then. I'm glad to see the state of Florida has taken it over and spruced the place up a bit. A little bit of socialism never hurt anybody. ;)
Loves the mermaid on the right
mermaids are awesome, that dude has a pretty sweet job. And state parks are awesome too. Way to go Florida. Oh, and good job on choosing Obama too.
