Be a Kid
On Memorial Day, we officially remember many serious things. Usually we acknowledge the sacrifices others have made for our country in war. We shouldn't forget them. And, of course, no one will or should forget the events of September 11, 2001.
Naturally, people have fun on Memorial Day, too. It ends a "long weekend", after all. So, remember the serious things but have yourself some fun today. Be a kid, even.
Happy Memorial Day!

Dirty Brooklyn Bridge
You have to love the Brooklyn Bridge. Even a dirty windshield cannot diminish its power and strength or its classicality. When you visit NYC, make sure to walk across it, if you can. Or at least go by car.
Now, I know how afraid of those "other" boroughs you all are but trust me on this one. You won't see another bridge like this. And I won't charge you anything either. This time...

ICP
Sometimes, when I go to an art museum, I enjoy the museum itself as much or more than the art exhibited. Here we see the International Center of Photography's entrance area, from a downstairs gallery.
So, go visit a museum. You have no excuse--enjoy the art or the building or both!

MAMMA MIA!
One can learn things from ads. For instance, I had no idea that MAMMA MIA! was the world's most popular musical. Seeing this makes me wonder how that might be qualified, i.e., "most popular musical right this second when there are no other musicals running". Or maybe they say "popular", since popularity is subjective and no one can really prove otherwise. Plus, who can verify the opinion of "the world"?
MAMMA MIA! does play in the same theater where CATS used to play and we all know about the popularity of CATS. Really makes you want to go and find out for yourself, eh? Bring lots of money!

Little Man Signature
Those that know him know that the little man prefers to walk. Here on an overcast day (yes, that great weather went away), he walks on Broadway as the usual black sedan passes. A car service may be the signature ride of some folks but walking will always be the signature of the little man. It's as simple as Black & White.

Shrek MSG
Huge banners advertising upcoming events (or in this case the movie SHREK THE THIRD) hang on the outside of Madison Square Garden. You don't see these kind of images just any old place and they lend themselves to fun compositions with other city elements. So, whether you go inside or find yourself walking by, Madison Square Garden always offers something to see.

Men at Work
In Times Square...Some might recognize this as a side of the Times Square Armed Forces Recruiting Station located on the island separating Seventh Avenue and Broadway.
When I took this shot yesterday, I had no idea that today was going to be Recruiter Appreciation Day. Well, it is, so, go sign up or thank folks for their service or protest your lungs out. You have the choice!

Nest Mouth
So, I says to the building super, I says, you know, birds get into the space above the bathroom ceiling. I think they get in through the vent--it has no cover outside. "Oh, no, that's impossible", says the super. Okay, all I know is that I hear them. "Nah"
Well, allow me to exhibit the above as a bit of, eh hem, concrete evidence.
But to the mother "upstairs" I say "Happy Mother's Day" to you. May you continue to get the worm.
...and, Happy Mother's Day to all the non-feathered mothers out there, too!
I think these are some kind of mums. "Mums"--you gotta love it!

Jersey View
One thing I want you to know: it is worth crossing the Hudson River to check out New Jersey. In just a couple of minutes of travel time, you can witness for yourself how there is more to Jersey than the turnpike and other cliche' "images". Here we see the spires of a church in Jersey City a bit before sunset. Of course, if you stay by the river, you can look back at Manhattan, too.

ALLIED
Sometimes, interesting things surround us but we get caught up in our own "world". Of course, when you see something enough, it disappears or seems less exciting. What interests one person may bore another.
It may appear as though the woman here merely walked along as I took the shot. But as I framed and focussed the shot, she remained standing in that position, focussed on her business.

Stoop!
I'm about to show all you folks
What's it's all about
I'm talking it back to the old school
'Cause I'm an old fool who's so cool
If you want to get down
I'm gonna show you the way -- STOOP there it is!
Let me hear you say
STOOP there it is!
[all apologies to Tag Team WHOOMP THERE IT IS]
