The Dakota

The Dakota, NYC

Built in 1880, THE DAKOTA is said to have been so-named because at the time it was built, its location was considered as remote as the Dakota Territory out in the Wild West. Here we see the entrance on 72nd Street where John Lennon was killed in December of 1980.

Unfortunately, whenever I hear about The Dakota, I think of John Lennon. Thanks for a recent photo of the place. You must do a lot walking around NYC every day. :)

Wild west is right, somehow. I'm with your previous comment--you must do a lot of walking. What is the footwear of choice for you?

I remember the night Lennon was killed in 1980. I didn't hear the news because I was watching a movie on HBO. I awoke the next morning to a small, side headline in my small-town paper "Lennon Is Shot in NYC". I don't think they realized the magnitude of the story just yet... Thanks for the picture.

I do think that this is one of my favorite photos.

Ah, the Dakota, and Lennon. I often wonder how different the world would be had my minstral lived.
